Cheetah Camp

The site is located in Trombay. It has a Municipal toilet block, a balwadi and a pathology lab surrounded by residential buildings on three sides.


Argumentative Drawing

The swelling and shrinking of use of space during different part of the day due to change in activities. The activities are mapped between 8 AM and 5 PM.

Observation 1

The street is used for parking on both sides during the morning hours when there is no chaos of people. People leave for work and vacate the parking spaces and the street swells up at 1pm when the school students leave.


Observation 2

The toilet block is most active during the morning hours. The balwadi becomes active at 11am and 2pm.


Observation 3

The gullys are inhabited by the women to do their daily chores and to socialize with each other. The space behind the toilet block is used by the children to play.

Design Process

Identification of Core

The idea of a core building which is stationary with a dynamic periphery that can expand and contract to accommodate activities. The services provided by the path lab, toilet, storage spaces in balwadi and staircases form the core while the seating spaces and the seating spaces, parking spaces and playing area becomes the part of the periphery which is expandable and contractable.
